Next Northern Motor Expo not likely until 2009

The organisers of the first Northern Motor Expo, held in Chiang Mai in February, have said the next edition of the event will be held only once a proper venue is available.
Kwanchai Paphatphong, chairman of Inter-Media Consultant Co and organising chairman of the annual Thailand International Motor Expo, said in a press release that the company would postpone organising the 2nd Northern Motor Expo, in collaboration with the Chiang Mai Chapter of the Federation of Thai Industries, until a permanent venue was available. "The recently held 1st Northern Motor Expo was well received by visitors and all parties concerned. However, the company suffered a loss of Bt10 million because the show hall was so lacking in amenities that the company had to rent an air-conditioned dome from Singapore at the very high cost of Bt14 million. Together with other expenses, the total cost of organising the expo amounted to more than Bt50 million. The company therefore decided to postpone holding the next Northern Motor Expo until a suitable show hall was in place, which is expected to be in the year 2009." The 1st Northern Motor Expo was the largest motor show held in the North, with the objectives of facilitating buying and selling of cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles and ancillary equipment, as well as bringing advances in automotive technology to consumers in the region. Kwanchai added that the company would next year organise a Northeastern Motor Expo in Khon Kaen. In 2009 the company plans to stage a motor expo in the South, with Phuket, Songkhla and Surat Thani being considered as venues. Meanwhile in Bangkok, the 23rd Thailand International Motor Expo will be held from November 30 to December 11 at the Challenger Hall, Impact Muang Thong Thani.
