General Surayud Chulanont, a respected retired army officer and advisor to Thailand's king, becomes Thailand's 24 th prime minister Sunday.



Interim Constitution approved by royal command

His Majesty the King has signed the interim Constitution, TV pool announced Sunday. The interim charter takes effect on October 1 until a new constitution is drafted and signed by His Majesty the King.



Broadcast of ceremony

A nationwide broadcast has been scheduled this afternoon of the ceremony at which the interim prime minister will receive the royal command on his appointment, a TV Pool source said last night. The Government House ceremony will be broadcast from 4.45pm.



Thaksin-era corruption'cost state Bt400 bn'

Systematic corruption involving 95 mega-projects carried out over the five and a half years of the Thaksin administration probably cost the state coffers about Bt400 billion, according to a recently published study.
