Adviser Prateep quits

Former senator Prateep Ungsongtham Hata resigned yesterday as an adviser on reconciliation and justice to the ruling junta.

Prateep, appointed by the Council for Democratic Reform (CDR) to its advisory committee on reconciliation and justice, said she had submitted a resignation letter to the council, because the CDR did not inform her in advance about her appointment and that she disagreed with the military coup.

She thanked the CDR for appointing her as its adviser but said she preferred to serve in a checks-and-balances mechanism that would scrutinise the CDR's work in order to ensure transparency.
