Klong Dan, CTX for panel

The National Counter Corruption Commission (NCCC) will transfer two major cases involving graft allegations against the government of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to the newly launched Assets Examination Committee (AEC), the NCCC chairman said yesterday.

Panthep Klanarongran said he had discussed the matter with Sawat Chotephanich, chairman of AEC, the ad hoc body recently established by the Council for Democratic Reform (CDR) to examine the assets of Thaksin and key politicians working for him.

"The NCCC is willing to cooperate with the AEC in any way," he said.

Panthep said the anti-graft body would hand the cases of the wastewater treatment scheme at Klong Dan and the CTX bomb scanners installed at Suvarnabhumi Airport to the AEC.

From now, he said, the NCCC would be responsible only for big cases involving national politicians and senior government officials. Small cases will be in the hands of each government department.

Meanwhile, NCCC secretary-general Saravut Maenasawase said members of Thaksin's Cabinet would need to report what their wealth was prior to the coup to the NCCC by October 18.
