Royal pens view in blog

The first known royal contribution to a blog by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is now available on the British Council website.

The princess's views about the teaching and learning of English in Thailand is a part of the Web log called Future Perfect Conference hosted by the council earlier this week to develop strategies to address long-term language-education needs in Thailand.

HRH Princess Sirindhorn writes: "We have witnessed in this past century that English has become a global language without much understanding of the process. Nor can we say that we really know the extent of its influence and status as the global language. But we can be sure of one thing: English can be used as a key to better understanding. As English is used and understood globally, we should be able to communicate, learn and understand each other better. Through English, then, we can make this world more knowledgeable and more understanding."

The blog can be accessed at http://access.britishcouncil.or.th.
