In Brief :4 local teams eye berths
Four local beach volleyball teams have booked a place in the qualifying round of the Phuket Thailand Open after the pre-qualifiers at Ramkhamhaeng University on Wednesday.
As the host country, Thailand can field six teams, with the first two - Kamolthip Kulna and Jarunee Sannok and the pairing of Yupa Pukrongploy and Usa Tenpaksee - eligible to play in the main draw. The top four teams are Ploenjit Kleebjampee and Nipaporn Kaewpila, Maneerat Udomchawee and Rinsai Preeprem, Nonglak Khorsoongnoen and Suphannee Doksantia and Pitawan Wongchaiya and Jalalak Radarong. Apart from berths in the qualifying round, they were awarded prize money of Bt16,000, Bt14,000, Bt10,000 and Bt8,000 respectively. Only the top eight teams from the qualifying round will make it to the round of 32 and for that the Thai girls have to contend with 40 teams from around the world. The event will take place on Karon Beach from November 1 to 5. Admission is free.
