Klong Dan investigation welcomed

The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry yesterday welcomed the decision by the recently-appointed National Counter Corruption Commission to expedite an investigation into alleged irregularities in the Klong Dan wastewater plant.
The investigation had been left pending after the previous anti-graft commissioners resigned last year after they were found to have improperly awarded themselves a pay rise. Apichai Chawajaroenphan, deputy permanent secretary for the Natural Resources and Environ-ment Ministry, said yesterday information relating to the Klong Dan plant would be given to the new NCCC. Commission chairman Panthep Klanarongran said the NCCC would have to act fast to look into Klong Dan as the statute of limitations - the timeframe under which charges can be filed - would expire late this year. Dawan Jantornhassadee, a key protester against the Klong Dan wastewater-plant project, said she supported all authorities who want to take action against those who wasted the country's money on this useless project. "There are grounds of wrongdoing," she said, adding her group was ready to give details to the NCCC.
