Aid to stranded

The Public Health Ministry has extended help to flood victims in the northern province of Phichit as the area remains engulfed in floodwater measuring up to two metres deep.

More than 10 villages are marooned. The ministry's permanent secretary Dr Prat Boonyawongvirot said flat-bottomed boats are being used to get relief items such as medicine to flood victims.

Prat and many senior officials of the ministry yesterday visited the Yupparat Tapan Hin Hospital in Phichit to give more medicines and garbage bags. Despite the flooding, more than 200 patients sought treatment at the hospital yesterday. Most were suffering from cold, athlete's foot and diarrhoea.
