Highlights of the week :Most anticipated event remains the choice of Thaksin's replacement

The biggest issue this week will be the question of who the next prime minister will be.
A number of well-known people are among the favourites to lead the country. The candidates to replace Thaksin Shinawatra are Supreme Administrative Court president Ackaratorn Chularat, Bank of Thailand governor MR Pridiyathorn Devakula, Supreme Court president Charnchai Likhitjittha, and former World Trade Organisation chief Supachai Panitchpakdi. The Council for Democratic Reform under Constitutional Monarchy (CDRM) was considering its choices and is expected to submit a candidate for His Majesty the King's endorsement on Wednesday.
Anti-graft body to meet today The new National Counter Corruption Commission (NCCC) will hold its first meeting today after the nine-member panel was appointed by the CDRM on Friday. Chairman Parnthep Klanarongran and his colleagues will be briefed about their work by the NCCC secretary-general, after which they will begin probing a backlog of over 10,000 cases.
Meechai to receive draft of charter Today, the draft of a provisional charter will be submitted to former Senate speaker Meechai Ruchuphan for consideration before it is passed to the CDRM for endorsement. The most important task of the interim government is to draft a new constitution to replace the 1997 one abrogated by the military. The draft process is expected to address the level of corruption that became widespread under the Thaksin government, in which conflicts of interest and favouritism abounded.
