Poll: insurgency most urgent

People most want the Council for Democratic Reform under Constitutional Monarchy (CDRM) to solve the troubles in the deep South and restore harmony in the country, according to the results of an Assumption University (Abac) Poll released yesterday.

The poll surveyed 4,250 respondents aged 18 and above across the country from September 20-22.

The poll showed respondents a list of 10 problems for the CDRM to address. Solving the trouble in the deep South quickly and restoring harmony among citizens was rated the topmost priority by 99.4 per cent of respondents.

Addressing problems stemming from natural disasters was the second most important item on the wish list for 99.1 per cent of respondents. And 95.5 per cent said they wanted the council to take legal action against politicians and government officials involved in scandals.

The poll questioned respondents about what the CDRM should do if it were proved that the ousted government had been guilty of malfeasance. Most (74.5 per cent) said the Thaksin government should be punished in accordance with the law, only 9.9 per cent of respondents said the CDRM should forgive the ex-government, and 15.6 per cent said they had no comment.
