PTT places more guards at its pipelines, plants

PTT Plc has stepped up security at its gas-separation plants and along its pipelines, under orders from the Council for Democratic Reform under Constitutional Monarchy.
"We've increased security at our gas operations to the maximum level. We've imposed the strictest controls on the entrances to such areas and are constantly checking security along our pipelines," said senior executive vice president Chitrapongse Kwangsukstith. He said that otherwise business continued as usual. The company's third pipeline will open on schedule in December, when 2,000 million cubic feet per day will be fed into the system, including 170 million cfpd from Unocal's gas blocks in the Gulf of Thailand. Another 200 million cfpd will come from block 18 of the Thai-Malaysian joint-development area in May and June next year and an additional 400 million cfpd in early 2008. In February and March 2008, 330 million cfpd of gas from the Arthit area will be fed to the pipeline, later increasing to 500 million cfpd. In 2010 the pipeline will be handling 5,000 million cfpd. PTT will start putting liquefied natural gas into the pipeline system in 2011, aiming for throughput of 800 million cfpd in 2015. The company is negotiating with Iran and Australia for gas procurement.
