Filipino leader to pursue foreign trips despite Thaksin's outsting

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will push through with her trips abroad scheduled before the end of the year, confident that what happened to ousted Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra will not happen to her, according to Presidential Management Staff Arthur Yap.
Sun Star Network Online quoted Yap as saying Arroyo is set to leave in October for China for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean)-China meeting, and in November, she would leave for Vietnam in November for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec). Other foreign-related events to be attended by Arroyo include the Asean joint consultative meeting in Cebu in November and the Asean ministerial meeting also in Cebu in December. Shinawatra was ousted by the Thai military while he was attending the UN General Assembly in New York.
