What Thais think about the coup:

Ek, 29, an employee

I agree with the coup because there was no way to end the longlasting political turmoil in our country. If the military didn't stage the coup we don't know how long the turmoil would last. But, I fear violence might erupt and I don't want to see that. I don't know how long it will take to get our democracy back.

Fon, 21, a student

I support the military coup because it will take Thaksin out of politics as he is the cause of all the trouble. But, the coup may create a nega¬tive image of our country.  The international media will have negative reports on our country, which will worsen the economic situation.

M, 16, a vendor

I support the coup because I don't like Thaksin. You know what he did with our country. If we allow him to stay longer our country will ruin.

Sasiprabha  Chantrawong, a student

I don't agree with any coup but this time I do. I changed my mind because Thaksin didn't concede to resign from the post. The longer he stays at the helm the worse our country will be destroyed. Although the country's reputation will be ruined (because of the coup) it's better than letting him stay in his power.
