A win for Tammy

Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn scored her first win in a WTA match this year when she rallied back from a set down to beat world No 73 Kaia Kanepi of Estonia in the first round of the US$175,000 Sunset Open in Kolkata yesterday.
Playing only her sixth WTA tournament of the season, Tamarine, whose ranking slid to No 124 this week, lost the first set 7-6 but woke up to win the second set 7-5 before prevailing in the third 6-0. The 29-year-old Thai has either lost in the first round of WTA events or fallen in the qualifying competitions this year. Her best performance to date was in 2003 when she made it to the third round at Wimbledon after battling through the qualifying rounds. In the second round, Tamarine will play either American Abigail Spears or Uzbekistan's big-serving Agkul Amanmuradova.
