A quiet day for Bangkok

[NATIONAL GAMES] Athletes from Bangkok won only six of the 32 gold medals contested yesterday, but the province still tops the medal standings with 106 gold, leaving Suphan Buri a distant second at the National Games.
In badminton, Bangkok's national team players Sawitree Amitpai and Patiphat Chaladlaem upset Suphan Buri's Sujittra and Jakkrapan Thanatheeratham 2-0 to take the mixed doubles gold. Thai No 2 Poompat Sapkulchananart defeated rising star Saral Cherdchurat of Trang to win the men's singles gold for Suphan Buri. The men's doubles title went to Trang's Somsak Musikkasem and Wiphop Sansanawirakul. Up-and-coming national team player Sithee Prueksapaisarnsilp of Kanchanaburi stunned former national team player Sujittra Ekmongkholpaisarn of Suphan Buri to win the women's singles crown for the second time. Chiang Mai won the women's doubles through Chayaporn Suphawilai and Ancheera Kititharakul, who defeated a Bangkok pair. In table tennis, Bangkok's Anisara Muangsuk, the country's No 1 women's player, won the women's singles gold. Chon Buri's Parkphum Sa-nguansin proved why he is Thailand's best player after winning the men's singles gold. Parkphum also won a second gold in the mixed doubles where he partnered Suthilak Rattanapra-yoon. Promising Waraporn Pornsirijanya was in exceptional form to win the women's individual all-round gold for Bangkok in rhythmic gymnastics. In cycling, national team rider Jatuphum Lekhawat from Bangkok won the men's 150km inline race after taking the 100km time trial the previous day. Chiang Mai ruled the first day of the rowing, winning five of the six events contested. In wrestling, Si Sa Ket's won two gold through Jirawut Wichian and Anchalee Sritanyarat in the men's under 55kg and women's under 63kg divisions, while Nakhon Si Thammarat, Chon Buri and Yala took one gold each in the men's under 66kg, under 48kg and under 84kg categories. The men's under 120kg division gold went to Chiang Rai, while the women's under 59kg division was won by Prae. Meanwhile in soccer, Narathiwat and Kanchanaburi will battle it out for the men's title in the final tomorrow. Narathiwat stunned defending champions Si Sa Ket 3-0 in the semi-final, while Kanchanaburi won a 5-4 penalty shoot-out in the other semi. In the women's semi-finals, Suphan Buri beat Chon Buri 5-4 in penalty shoot-out, while Khon Kaen routed Si Sa Ket 7-0.
