Pongsak's petition accepted

The Bangkok South Criminal Court yesterday accepted a petition from Thai Rak Thai deputy secretary-general Pongsak Ruktapongpisal, who has charged Democrat Party secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban with paying candidates from small parties to contest the April 2 election.

Pongsak asked the court to order Suthep to pay for notices in nine daily newspapers publicising the court's decision to accept the petition.

In response, Suthep accused three senior Thai Rak Thai officials - Pongsak, deputy leader Thamarak Isarangura and deputy secretary-general Prommin Lertsuridej - of conspiring to subvert the country's democracy.

The court ordered the accused to testify on November 21.
