Coria out of Thailand Open

Former world No 3 Guillermo Coria of Argentina has withdrawn from October's US$550,000 Thailand Open due to a nagging right thigh injury.
The Argentine has been bothered by the injury since the US Open, where he was forced to retire in the first set of his first round match against American Ryan Sweeting. Coria has had an inconsistent season which saw his ranking plummet to No 68 this week. However, the tournament will be still have several big stars, including three top 10 players in Ivan Ljubicic, James Blake and Marcos Baghdatis. World No 8 Blake said after his strong showing in New York where he reached the quarter-finals of the US Open that he was determined to do well in Bangkok. "This will be my first time playing at the Thailand Open and I'm really looking forward to it," he said. "I think the Bangkok hard courts will suit my game." Other stars competing include Britain's Tim Henman, Finland's Jarkko Nieminen, Korea's Hyung-Taik Lee, Croatian giant Ivo Karlovic and local star Paradorn Srichaphan. Also confirmed are Robby Ginepri, Mardy Fish, Vince Spadea, Kevin Kim, Paul Goldstein and Justin Gimelstob of America, Germany's Rainer Schuettler, Brazil's Marcos Daniel, Canada's Frank Dancevic, Julien Benneteau and Nicolas Mahut from France and Fernando Vicente from Spain. Three wild card entrants will be announced later this week, but BEC-Tero Entertainment managing director Brian Marcar revealed that Benjamin Becker, who defeated Andre Agassi in his last match at the US Open, had asked for a wild card and was likely to receive one. Thai No 2 Danai Udomchoke was also likely to receive a wild card into the main draw.
