EC may look at interview

The Election Commission may look into caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's interview broadcast on Channel 5 yesterday, if there are any complaints that it violated the electoral law, a newly selected EC member said.

Sumet Oupanisakorn, one of five new commissioners, said the EC would try to determine if the PM talked about government policies in general - or was trying to woo support from the voters.

"If there is a complaint that the issue could give certain political parties an advantage, we will have to discuss it to determine if electoral law was violated." Sumet was referring to Thaksin's interview on the "Sanam Pao Station" programme yesterday. The appointments of the EC five await royal endorsement.
