Students can see tests online

The National Institute of Educational Testing Service will upload its 2006 O-Net and A-Net test questions and answers on its website next week, acting director Wichien Ketsing said yesterday.
He said papers for all subjects of the O-Net (Ordinary National Educational Test) and A-Net (Advanced National Educational Test) would be available at www.ntthailand.com to help students prepare for next year's O-Net/A-Net tests. The scores are important for students eyeing a specific programme at university. Wichien said the decision to post the test questions and answers on the website was made after cram schools got hold of the question papers and taught their students how to tackle them. The 2007 O-Net/A-Net tests are scheduled to be held in March and February. But this year's tests had its fair share of problems. Test sites were changed at the last minute. NIETS also repeatedly voided the scores due to many errors. The delay in turn upset the university-admission schedule. NIETS came under heavy criticism for using some open-ended questions in the tests, attempted by 100,000 students. However, Wichien yesterday said NIETS would continue to include the open-ended questions in the A-Net test next year, if it is assigned to organise the test. He said representatives from the Office of Higher Education Commission, NIETS and University President Council of Thailand would soon meet to determine who would organise the next test. Previously, UPCT had planned to take over from NIETS.
