Monson vs Thaksin

William Monson and Thaksin Shinawatra have been involved in five legal cases since 1989.
The first was brought by Monson and accused Thaksin and cable firm International Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) of breaking a joint-venture contract and failing to transfer the rights to operate IBC to Monson's Bangkok firm Video Link. Monson did not appeal the decision after the court ruled against him.IBC was a complainant in a criminal prosecution that accused Monson of embezzling transmission equipment. The American was acquitted. IBC then sought compensation from Monson for the alleged embezzlement. The court of first instance and the Appeals Court ruled against IBC on grounds Monson had a transaction contract with Thaksin and IBC. An appeal is pending. Monson filed a fourth action in 1995 alleging Thaksin committed perjury in the embezzlement trial. The Criminal Court agreed on June 19 to hold a preliminary examination. Five hearings are scheduled, starting on September 18. A fifth case was filed by Monson on July 20 this year - but thrown out by the Criminal Court yesterday.
