Suspect in student shooting denied bail

One of two vocational students allegedly involved in a revenge killing appeared in court yesterday.

Rajamangala University of Technology Uthen Thawai campus student Pongpan Boonwiset, 24, has been charged with murder and illegal possession of a firearm.

He allegedly shot dead 18-year-old Pathum Wan Institute of Technology freshman Ekkapong Khuha on Tuesday.

The shooting occurred at a pedestrian bridge near the Talad Nong Khaem shopping mall in Bangkok's Nong Khaem district.

The second-year student appeared yesterday in Thon

Buri Criminal Court, where

police asked for his

detention for another 12 days pending further investigation.

Police told the court Pongpan was a flight risk and could tamper with evidence or influence witnesses. He was remanded into their custody.

Police continue to seek another student in connection with the killing.

They said Ekkapong had no known conflict with the accused although they believed Pongpan shot him in revenge for the murder last month of a school friend, allegedly by Pathum Wan students.
