Security boosted

Senate Speaker Suchon Chaleekrua has ordered increased security at the Parliament compound ahead of a meeting of the upper house expected later this week to select the five election commissioners.

Suchon's orders came after the discovery of a fake bomb outside the premises on Tuesday.

He said yesterday that he would not take any risks and had instructed Parliament's security personnel to beef up their presence to guarantee the compound was "100 per cent" secure.

The Senate speaker said he had asked for more police to be at Parliament on meeting days.

Senators are expected to take part in an extraordinary meeting between tomorrow and Sunday to select the five Election Commission members.

Suchon is the most senior parliamentarian at present.
