[BASKETBALL] Srinakarinwirot University advanced to the final of the Bt140,000 The Nation-Siam University League Tournament after beating Dhurakij Pundit University 74-70 in the best-of-three semi-finals yesterday.
The two teams had played the first two games for one win apiece. In the first period, Srinakarinwirot struggled to pierce the defence of Dhurakij and trailed 15-19. While they missed shots, Dhurakij brought in national player Sophon Pinijrattanalert to light up the proceedings and stretched their lead to 42-35 at half-time. Srinakarinwirot regained their composure as Prawit Wichudarat sank a three-pointer to help the team lead for the first time 51-50 in the third quarter. They never looked back, ending with a slim 59-54 lead. Playing inspired basketball, Srinakarinwirot widened the gap to 66-56 before Dhurakij's Jakkraphan Silapapiphat sank a couple of baskets to reduce the deficit to 67-71. With 20 seconds left for the game to end, Prawit dribbled past a maze of legs to pass the ball to the injured Prachya Kruatiwa, who shot a three-pointer to the deafening applause of Srinakarinwirot fans.
