Alongkorn sued for alleged libel remarks

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Yongyuth Tiyapairat filed a lawsuit with the Criminal Court on Monday accusing Democrat Party deputy leader Alongkorn Pollabutr of defamation.

The lawsuit, filed by Yongyuth's lawyer Sivawit Samretphol, also accused Alongkorn of violating the electoral law and asked the court to revoke his election right for 10 years if he was found guilty.

The case stemmed from Alongkorn's allegation that certain senior politicians and officials of the Forest Industry Organisation, which is part of Yongyuth's ministry, were involved in illegal sales of logs from the FIO's eucalyptus forests in northeastern provinces.

The lawsuit said that during his press conference on the matter, Alongkorn implied that Yongyuth was involved with the irregularity.
