IN BRIEF
AOT meets on Don Muang's future

Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) will hold a meeting next Wednesday to sign off on the operational plans for Don Muang airport after the opening of Suvarnabhumi Airport.

AOT president Chotisak Asapaviriya said yesterday that caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra would chair the meeting. After hearing from relevant agencies, AOT has received suggestions to use Don Muang as a venue to for Royal Thai Air Force flying activities and for private and charter flights.

Chotisak said there were also proposals to use passenger terminals I and II to organise trade exhibitions and other important events. The air cargo and domestic terminals will be developed to become aircraft-maintenance stations. "The Royal Thai Air Force has drawn up a development plan to create Thailand as an aircraft maintenance regional hub," he said.

Danish school promotes Thai food

To promote Thai restaurants overseas, the Commerce Ministry has opened a special cooking course in Denmark to provide cooking techniques for authentic Thai dishes.

Phimol Srivikorn, secretary to the commerce minister, said yesterday that the ministry had also reached an agreement with Copen-hagen Hospitality College, the country's largest food institute, to send Thai chefs and food experts to jointly teach Thai cooking in the country. Denmark is the first country in Europe to take part in the project.

"The plan aims not only to promote Thai menus abroad but also to provide more knowledge about Thai food and cooking styles to foreigners," Phimol said.

The programme has prepared a team of 23 chefs and food experts from Kasetsart University and Thanyaburi Rajamangala Institute of Technology to demonstrate the cooking techniques. Some 2,000 new Thai restaurants have been opened overseas during the first half of the year. So far, there are 9,000 Thai restaurants worldwide with an expected 12,000 by the end of the year.
