Shiseido trims sales forecast

Shiseido (Thailand) Co Ltd said last week that it had slashed its 2006 target for cosmetics sales growth from 14 per cent to 9 per cent due to flagging consumer purchasing power.

"Our sales met the target of 14 per cent for the first half, but we don't know what will happen in the second half, as the average bill has dropped from Bt4,000 in the first half to Bt3,000 for July and August," Shiseido brand manager Wanida Asawalapslip said last week.

The company has budgeted 20 per cent of sales to market the Maquillage line of cosmetics, part of a launch of up to 50 products in the rest of the year.

The company also plans to open counters in CentralWorld and Robinson Department Store in Ayutthaya, taking its total outlets to 67.
