Suchon has received background report on 10 short-listed candidates
The Senate subcommittee chaired by Suthorn Chinda-in has submitted its report on the personal backgrounds of the 10 Election Commission candidates to Senate Speaker Suchon Chaleekrua. The panel spent 18 days investigating the 10 candidates, Suthorn said yesterday. "The investigation was the most tiring I have ever done. However, the inquiry was finished two days before deadline," he said. The panel chairman said he had already submitted the report so that Suchon could ask the Cabinet to issue a Royal Decree to convene another special session of the Senate to pick the five new election commissioners. "The current extraordinary parliamentary session expired on Thursday, and we expect Suchon might ask the Cabinet [for the decree] on Tuesday," he said.
Dath plunge : Police officer killed in hospital fall A police officer working at the Election Commission headquarters plunged to his death from a hospital building at 11pm on Thursday, police said yesterday. The body of Corporal Wadida Ar-romsawa, 32, was found on the floor at the rear of a building at the Nopparat Rajathanee Hospital. A nurse told police that Wadida had been sent to the hospital on Thursday by an official at the Hong Daeng Foundation. "According to what the foundation official told the nurse, Wadida seemed strained and that he didn't want to return to the [EC] office because he would have to face problems," police said. However, Wadida's sister Pratumporn, 40, refuted this, saying her brother never mentioned any tension at the office. Police concluded that his death was either an accident or an individual problem.
