Rangsit edge rivals

Rangsit University scored a narrow 69-63 victory over King Mongkut's Institute of Technology University North Bangkok in a Group A preliminary match in the Bt140,000 The Nation-Siam University League Tournament yesterday.
The visiting Rangsit team played at a furious pace to take a slim 22-18 lead in the first quarter. King Mongkut's Institute began to assert themselves but could not break Rangsit's tight defence. The visitors went ahead 40-32 by half-time. The hosts, now under pressure, tried to stage a fight back, but missed important shots. In the last period, the visitors slowed down the game, allowing King Mongkut's Institute to reduce the gap. But then it was too little too late for the hosts. In a Group B match, Siam University scored their second straight victory over Bangkok University 90-80. After preliminary round-robin matches, Group A leaders Thammasat will take on Group B runners-up Rattana Bundit, Group A second-placed Dhurakij Pundit will face Group B topper Srinakarinwirot in the best-of-three semi-finals from today to September 5.
