More prayers to protect the PM

One of several banners, hung on the Bang-Na Trad freeway on the outskirts of Bangkok, asks for holy powers to protect the premier. There have been claims they were made and put up by local residents.
A temple attended by members of the Shinawatra clan has added a special prayer to its daily chants in the hope of protecting caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The prime minister alleged last week he was the target of an assassination attempt.

As of last Thursday the Rong Tham Samakee temple had added a prayer of Lord Buddha's victory over devils to its daily chants, the temple abbot's secretary Phra Kru Yongyut Thitathammo said yesterday.

Internal Security Operation Command staff member Lieutenant Thawatchai Klinchana was arrested last week on suspicion of attempting to blow up the prime minister.

"People are worried about the premier's safety. So, we have organised more prayer to protect Thaksin from any danger," the monk said.

Members of the Shinawatra family visit the Rong Tham Samakee temple on holy days.

The temple houses the ashes Shinawatra family members.
