Stamp out graft in farm price support: Somkid

Caretaker Commerce Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak yesterday called on trade officials to stamp out corruption in the farm-price support scheme.

Somkid demanded Internal Trade Department officials take immediate action to end the graft.

"All of you can take action against corruption immediately. You don't have to wait for the police. Don't allow middlemen or rice millers to take advantage of the public via these schemes aimed at helping farmers, " said Somkid.

He added that honest civil servants could be proud, even though their salaries were low.

About 500 officials yesterday attended a seminar to discuss department strategic planning following recent bureaucratic reform.
