A major Thai auto firm is set to secure a deal with Proton Holdings Bhd for the sole rights to distribute Proton cars in the country, a source from Bangkok was quoted as saying in Malaysia's Business Times.
A definite agreement will be signed before the year-end, introducing Proton to Thailand's highly competitive car market. "Proton has opted for a powerful partner here in Thailand as this distributor is a major automotive player for passenger cars with a 30-year pedigree in the local automotive industry," a source said. The source added that the company had an extensive dealership network nationwide and had been a long-time authorised dealer for several US and Japanese car makes, securing top sales awards from them over the years. The company is also an importer of renowned Italian models.
