Former Army chief sues Sondhi

The Criminal Court yesterday accepted a libel suit filed by former Army chief Gen Chaiyasit Shinawatra against Sondhi Limthongkul, co-worker Sarocha Porn-udomsak and the Manager newspaper for publishing an article, which the suit said contained untrue allegations against him.
Chaiyasit, a cousin of caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, said that when Manager and its website referred to the sale of Shin Corp shares to an alleged Temasek nominee by the Shinawatra and Damapong families and asked where the money had really gone, readers could be misled into thinking he was involved because of his surname. Manager also broadcast the article via Sondhi's cable TV "Muang Thai Rai Supda" (Thailand Weekly). Chaiyasit said his reputation had been tarnished by the article. The court set a first hearing on October 31.
