TRT sets campaign rules

A legal expert of the ruling Thai Rak Thai Party said yesterday that the party had set rules for campaigning for the October general election to prevent members breaking the laws and being disqualified.

Vichit Plangsrisakul told party members to ensure they complied with election laws after the ballot decree became effective yesterday.

He said that early next month, the party would hold a seminar for the legal and accounts staff, and 400 constituency candidates.

Kuthep Saikrajang, another of the party's legal experts, said there had been violent attempts by certain groups recently to get the October 15 election postponed.

He also said that at a meeting on Wednesday the party planned to pick some 3,000 supporters per constituency who could travel to the capital at short notice.

"In fact we are preparing them [supporters] to explain the truth to the people. The premier also told members that if any constituency gets an extra 3,000 voters as well, we will win.

"We have to be ready, which is the premier's objective, not gather them to do something in Bangkok," Kuthep said.

Speaking about Thaksin contesting the election, Kuthep said the party leader had clearly said he would run as a party-list candidate and he is still the party leader.
