'Kids need ethics lessons'

Excessive coverage of violence in the media could lead to a generation that considers rapes, murders, assaults and robberies commonplace, an activist warned yesterday.
Taenkhun Jit-issara, head of the "One Family, One Grateful Child" project, said urgent action was needed to teach children about ethics in view of the prevalence of violence in the media."Parents should provide children with a warm family and have lots of time to talk to each other," he said at a seminar organised by the Culture Ministry to train youths for a culture-watch mission. Taenkhun encouraged children to hug and wai their parents every day. "Say straight that you love your parents. This enhances familial ties," he said. Taenkhun's "One Family, One Grateful Child" project has attracted more than 100,000 young participants already. He said he would go to Pattani next month to promote the project there. He also urged families to embrace His Majesty the King's "sufficiency economy" theory in their daily lives. The Nation Phetchaburi
