Govt House security on alert

Government House has been put on alert after a series of bomb threats and the realisation that security was too loose, officials said yesterday.
They have proposed raising the level of security at Government House to the same standard as Bangkok airport. In light of "current threats", the Prime Minister's Office should be protected at the third level of its four-level security grading, a source from the security office said. At the top level the Government House compound would be treated as a restricted zone. Security will be tightened as a result of Monday's melee at Central World Plaza, when supporters of the prime minister appeared to attack opponents jeering him. Police from the Special Branch have been assigned to carry M16 rifles in front of all gates every day from 6pm to 8am. People going into or out of Government House will be closely monitored. On Saturday, security officials from the PM's secretariat will train Government House staff to prepare for any emergencies such as a fire, or threats of sabotage. The training will be run by Special Branch police, the National Intelligence Agency and the police ordnance division. Piyanart Srivalo, The Nation
