Television production company and media provider RS Plc has announced a move into event marketing.
The move came after a group of senior staff from Matching Entertainment Co Ltd, a local leader in event organising and promotions, resigned a few months ago to set up their own agency, IDream Entertainment Co Ltd. RS then bought 60 per cent of IDream Entertainment in June, and changed its name to RSi-Dream Entertainment Co Ltd. Boonperm Intanapasat, former general manager of Matching Entertainment, is managing director of RSi-Dream Entertainment, which has registered capital of Bt10 million and aims to promote and market events of global significance. RS chief executive Surachai Chetchotisak said the new arrangement would allow RS to expand its business to become a truly aggregated event and entertainment agency. The company will challenge established event-marketing service providers in Thailand, including Matching Entertainment, BEC Tero and GMM Grammy. "With our background as a leading provider of entertainment and media content, we own many valuable entertainment assets, including 20 TV programmes, three radio stations, a movie production department, and more than 300 artists in the recording industry," Surachai said. He added that these assets can be fully used to maximise its new event-marketing business and provide extra revenue for RS and its artists. "We believe Thailand still has great potential for the entertainment business. However, we need to monitor trends and the demands of local consumers and manage our entertainment products so they are different from others," said Surachai. Boonperm, who spent nearly two and a half years with Matching Entertainment, said the market for event organising was growing constantly. "We will offer a different 4D event marketing strategy that will customise our clients' objectives by harmonising their products or services with our event content. RS will swing its entertainment and media assets behind us to make our events successful," he said. RSi-Dream is also studying the demand for event-marketing services and promotion of world-class events overseas, including in Vietnam, Taiwan and China, for future expansion. "The partnership with RS will strengthen the value of our services and content in both the local and international markets," Boonperm said. In its first year, the company is planning five mega-projects, three of which are "The World Fireworks Championship 2006", which will be the first world-class fireworks competition in Thailand; "Jazz Royale Festival 2006", with famous artists such as Kenny G, Chris Botti, the Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band, McCoy Tyner, Regina Carter, and Nancy Wilson; and "All Star Hero", the biggest walk-through exhibition of famous characters ever assembled. RSi-Dream has also secured all rights to the Ultraman TV series in Thailand and Vietnam from Chaiyo Productions Co Ltd, as well as rights to the Ultraman World Tour live show for all world audiences except Japan. The new company expects revenues of Bt300 million from projects already in planning, of which between 40 per cent and 50 per cent will cover operational and business costs.
