TAT event targets the Mice market

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and private bodies are planning to hold a "Table Top Sales Trade" event in Krabi for three days from September 1, to promote the meetings, incentives, convention and exhibition (Mice) segment of the tourism industry in the southern provinces over the remaining months of the low season.
The event will be held at the Sheraton Krabi Beach Resort Hotel, and will feature 80 "sellers" representing tourism locations in the southern provinces. Most of the "buyers" will come from Bangkok. The event aims to attract more Mice business to the region during the "green season", a name more easily marketable than "low" or "off" season. In cooperation with the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) and the Thailand Incentive and Convention Association, the TAT has been working with local operators since the tourism b usiness felt the full impact of the tsunami disaster. TAT's deputy governor for domestic markets, Juthaporn Reungronasa, said the event would draw more business travellers to the region. TAT's Phuket office director, Suwalai Pinpradub, said the region needed domestic visitors, especially in the low season. Travelling with a group will become more popular for destinations such as Phuket and Krabi.
