Dhurakij Pundit at the top

Dhurakij Pundit University finished on top of Group A after routing Rangsit University 83-63 in a preliminary match in the Bt140,000 The Nation-Siam University League Tournament yesterday.
Hosts Dhurakij Bundit University opened with fast breaks to post a 13-6 lead after the first five minutes. With better teamwork and national team captain Piyapong Piroon and Jakkraphan Sillapapipat firing, the hosts stretched their lead to 24-17 by the end of the first period. The visiting Rangsit University then brought on several reserves and changed their tactics. The visitors played aggressively but were still trailing 48-17 at half-time. Rangsit University's Atirachat Prayakchon hit many points, including lay-ups and free throws, to cut the lead to 51-57. Then, as much as the visitors tried to play a fast game they made erratic passes, which inspired the Dhurakij Pundit side to run away to 62-53 lead. With time ticking away in the final period, the visitors threw everything they had into the game to break the much stronger Dhurakij Pundit University, but their attempts did not pay off and they lost. Elsewhere, hosts Rattana Bundit University edged out Bangkok University 71-69 to avenge their away 106-103 loss in a Group B clash. Today Srinakarinwirot University take on Siam University in their second meeting in Group B. Rangsit University will face hot favourites Thammasat University, while Dhurakij Pundit University will meet King Mongkut's Institute of Technology University North Bangkok in Group A matches.
