The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) yesterday ordered its fact-finding committee to re-investigate allegations that two teachers raped five primary students, after it came up with a one-sided result.
"The fact-finding committee has concluded its investigation results without any information from the alleged victims, their families, the Pavena Hongsakul Foundation, or even medical evidence," Deputy Bangkok City Clerk Anan Siripassaraporn said. Wat Ratniyomtham School's director Songsri Luangpaitoon chaired the fact-finding committee. This is not the same school as that attended by the alleged victims. Anan declined to disclose the probe results, saying the investigation was too incomplete to conclude anything. "The fact-finding committee has seven days to complete its re-investigation," he said. He said the fact-finding committee had claimed that the alleged victims' families were uncooperative when asked to give information. "The committee will have to prove how hard it tried in asking for information from the alleged victims' parents," Anan said. He had already set up another fact-finding committee, chaired by Assistant Bangkok City Clerk Somchai Jantanansiri, to launch a parallel investigation. "We will look at the results of both committees," Anan said. An informed source said the fact-finding committee chaired by Songsri concluded that the rape allegation was groundless because many witnesses gave alibis for the accused teachers. In a related development, Chat Thai Party deputy leader Chuwit Kamolvisit offered moral support to Pavena Hongsakul, who helped the alleged victims take legal action against their teachers. "Those who have abused children must be brought to justice," he said.
