A College student injured in a brawl

An 18-year-old student was shot and seriously injured during an early morning brawl on Tuesday, police said.

A man suspected of being a member of a teen gang allegedly shot third-year Siam Technology College student Tiwaporn Rattanakitpaisa in the stomach.

The incident happened near a Din Daeng restaurant at about 2.30am.

Tiwaporn was taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery.

According to Huai Khwang police, the victim and her friends Avuth Bangsuang and Theeradech Yaimanee, both 21, became involved in an argument with a group of about 20 teenagers at the Bali seafood restaurant.

Lieutenant Nattapol Buabutr said the teenagers were asked to leave the restaurant by a passing policeman. A brawl then developed outside.

Theeradech sustained injuries to his jaw and a woman struck Tiwaporn several times in the face.

A man riding a motorcycle fired into the group, hitting Tiwaporn.

Theeradech told police that responding officers fired warning shots into the air. The gunman fled.
