Srinakarinwirot down Siam for 2nd win

National team player Pratchaya Kruathiwa spearheaded Srinakarinwirot University to a 72-66 victory over hosts Siam University in their Group B preliminary match in the Bt140,000 The Nation-Siam University League Tournament yesterday.
Srinakarinwirot registered their second straight win in the tournament following their 92-82 victory over Bangkok University in their first round robin match. Their win came after some back-up from several national team stars including the talented Pratchaya. Both teams made a slow start, relying too much on their defensive games. But it did not take Srinakarinwirot long to get their momentum going as they applied more variety to their game to gain a slight edge at 25-20 in the first quarter. The second session saw the two sides attack more amid loud cheers from Siam's supporters. Siam changed their tactics and opted for more long shots but it was not enough to stop the visitors, who generated more sharp shots to lead 41-33. With superior teamwork, Srinakarinwirot extended a big 18-point gap lead at one stage in the third quarter. But driven on by their fans, Siam fought hard to reduce the deficit to 63-50. The final quarter was a thriller as the hosts gave their all by launching a series of raids to keep the visiting team at bay. But when the final whistle was blown, the hosts were trailing six points behind as Srinakarinwirot walked away with a 72-66 win. Srinakarinwirot will play host in their next meet on August 23. In the other match played yesterday at Thammasat University at the Rangsit Campus, Thammasat trounced King Mongkut Institute 90-78 in their Group A match.
