Most complaints 'concern neutrality'

The Senate panel checking the backgrounds of the 10 nominees for the new Election Commission said most of the complaints against them alluded to their political neutrality - or rather the lack of it.
Out of a total of 117 complaints mailed to PO Box 45 Parliament up to Thursday, 100 were centred on the nominees' neutrality, with the rest questioning their honesty. Only five complainants revealed their identities. The panel received 208 online complaints, 99 of them raising questions about the nominees' neutrality. Caretaker Senator Sunthorn Chinda-in, who chairs the panel, said it had had to work hard to scrutinise those complaints not substantiated by evidence. The panel will try to complete its work in 20 days, he said. Sunthorn dismissed reports that the committee had been pressured by the government to get its work done by the end of the month. "No one can pressure me. Everyone works in a straightforward manner. We do not care about any pressure," he said.
