Computers returned

Hundreds of personal computers supplied to schools in Uttaradit province have been returned after administrators found they had lower-than-required specifications.

Some 500 computers have been sent back from 130 schools and are now piled up at Regional Education Office 1.

They are due to be returned to the Office of Welfare for Teachers and Educational Personnel (OTEP), which bought them from ASC Copy Centre last year.

Thamrong Nuamsiri, head of a kindergarten, said he returned computers for fear of a criminal charge being filed against him for possession of illegal items. Most teachers filed a complaint with police after returning the units.

The teacher said he had learned that each computer sold by ASC Copy Centre through OTEP was priced at Bt16,000 while being sold publicly at only Bt12,000.
