A QUESTION OF RELATIONSHIPS
It's unfettered narcissism

One of the top 20 searches on Pantip.com's extremely popular message boards over the past few weeks has been "Miss A". Or at least that's the name I'm using in order to protect the identity of the poor girl, who's reputation has already been damaged quite enough.
It's easy to hate Miss A. "I don't think I look like Tong Pakaramai, but everyone else thinks I do, so here are some pictures to compare," Miss A writes on Pantip. This opening message is followed by several pictures of Tong and Miss A. Believe me when I tell you that, apart from their both being homo sapiens, there are few similarities. The first few comments were polite, although sarcasm began to settle in after the first few dozen messages. After 50 to 60 follow-up comments, they began to turn deservedly mean. "Yes, you do look alike, apart from your eyes, your nose and your mouth," remarked one of the message posters. Much similar abuse followed. Miss A might not have received all of the abuse if it weren't for the very direct and inconsiderate remarks she had written on Pantip.com's other message boards. When pictures of an attractive lady were posted in the Canon Club's forum on the website, Miss A commented that the dress the woman wore looked cheap. It's as if Miss A doesn't have a mirror - her own photos aren't that great either. "It's normal for Assumption University graduates to get higher salaries than graduates from other universities" she also argued, despite her admitting that she knew absolutely nothing about the company she was applying to work for. When people from Pantip's Silom business forum started giving Miss A sagely advise about changing her attitude, she argued with them fiercely. Apart from this, Miss A also regularly posts pictures of her current and former boyfriends, apparently very proud of how handsome they are. Her blog is filled with memoirs on what luxury items she has just bought and which posh restaurants she has been to. And yet she is probably from a middle-class family at best and living well beyond her means. In a message, she indicated with pride that her latest brand name handbag cost six times her monthly salary. Miss A probably isn't the first of her type, but she is most certainly Thailand's first case of unfettered narcissism documented online. I once wrote in this column about how beautiful women go through life without knowing about their weaknesses because of the constant praise they receive from society. In Miss A's case, we're talking about an extremely mediocre looking women who thinks she deserves to be Thailand's Next Top Model. Someone needs to tell her how wrong she is. This is an average-looking woman with a clearly below-average intellect living a fairytale life that exists only in her head. She thinks she is better than everyone around her, when in reality, a lot of people are laughing at her. The sorry part is that she seems genuinely confused. This is a kind of woman that society can do without. The same form of narcissism and delusion exists in various forms among women, and Miss A serves as one all-encompassing example of all those forms of narcissism rolled into one person. Someone should make her famous, beyond the online world, even if it is only to make her an exhibition of something to avoid like the plague. By Ultimate Oink
