Tiger targets Andaman coast

Singapore-based budget airline Tiger Airways is to increase its flights to Krabi and Hat Yai, while teaming up with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and nine Singaporean tour agencies to offer special packages for travel to Thailand's Andaman Sea provinces.
The director of TAT's Singapore Office, Eumporn Jiragalwisul, said the campaign, set for high-season travel from now until October, aims to encourage tourists to visit provinces hit by the tsunami nearly 20 months ago, especially Krabi and Trang.Eumporn said Tiger Airways is the only airline offering international flights from Singapore to Krabi and Hat Yai. Beginning this month, it will increase its weekly flights to Krabi from four to six, and will lift its Singapore-Hat Yai services from seven to nine per week. The airline will also introduce package tours priced at 388 Singapore dollars (Bt9,200) for a five-day visit to Krabi and Hat Yai. Eumporn said more than 70 per cent of Hat Yai-bound passengers from Singapore are repeat visitors. Singapore tour agencies joining the promotion include Asia-Euro Holidays, Chan Brothers Travel, Fascinating Holidays, Focal Travel, Muhibbah Travel, NTUC Income Travel, Spring Travel, UOB Travel Planners and Wingo Travel. The TAT said 249 tourists flew from Singapore to Trang last month. New attractions and activities in the area are key factors in increasing visitor numbers. Suchat Sritama, The Nation
