Snoh to dispel voters' 'illusions'

The new Pracharaj Party will soon begin a nationwide campaign to "clear any illusions" among certain people who have been under political influence for some time, party leader Snoh Thienthong said yesterday.
He said the party would try to educate the rural poor about "the direction in which Thai politics is heading". "We will travel to all areas of the country to clear up illusions among grassroots people and let them know why our country, although not facing a war, has been facing a severe crisis," Snoh said at his Muang Thong Thani house. Snoh, once the chief adviser of the ruling Thai Rak Thai Party, quit to form his own party after a severe dispute with Thai Rak Thai leader and caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The veteran politician has remained highly critical of Thaksin. Snoh said yesterday the party would also distribute CDs containing information it wanted to tell rural voters about its efforts to "clear up the illusions". Snoh said his party's policy platform would push for mega-projects to ensure adequate water supplies and to solve flooding problems. The plan would be modelled on the King's water management advice, he said.
