Prodrive expansion

Prodrive Automotive Technology, the UK-based motor sports and vehicle engineering service provider, is currently looking at potential customers in the auto industry to expand its business in the region.
Managing director Bryan Mears said: "Our main customer in the region is Ford and it was because of them that we set up the company. Now, however, we are looking to expand and are in the process of discussing projects with various carmakers. "There are no auto companies in Thailand with an official motor sports front, but it is only a matter of time before there are. With our specialised experience in the field, we will be able to provide the support and technology, carmakers need." Prodrive also has experience in the field of alternative fuels. In the past it has worked with Ford to develop ethanol-, LPG- and CNG-based vehicles. Although Mears did not state whether the company is working with Ford on this issue in Thailand, he stressed the company's experience in the field. In Australia, Prodrive supports Ford in running the Ford Performance Vehicle (FPV) and Ford Performance Racing (FPR) divisions. Prodrive Thailand also hopes to expand its business in the supplier arena. The company is currently on Tier 1 and Tier 2, equivalent to suppliers like Summit and Thai Summit Group. Prodrive is in discussions with PTT and the Thai Automotive Institute and is also considering opening a local chassis and power train regional centre, although Mears did not reveal where or when this would be established.
