Promoting Chiang Mai

The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, northern entrepreneurs and KTC Card will reduce the price of a tourist discount card during the Royal Flora Ratchaphruek 2006 in Chiang Mai.
The Greater Lanna Passport Card will cost Bt500 instead of Bt820 during the horticultural exposition, which runs from November 1 to January 1.The card gives admission to five tourist attractions - the Royal Flora Ratchaphruek, Night Safari, Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens, Doi Tung Development Project and the Opium Centre of the Golden Triangle. The latter two are in Chiang Rai. The cards are available this month, but supplies are limited to 40,000. The standard entrance price for events will range from Bt30 to Bt200 (same rate for Thais and foreigners), with children under a metre tall allowed in free. Tickets are discounted if purchased early. The exposition, which expects to attract at least two million visitors, will benefit Chiang Mai's economy and is likely to increase spending per person per day from Bt4,000-Bt5,000 to Bt7,000. The Software Industry Promotion Agency, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Chiang Mai Chamber of Commerce and Chiang Mai Tourism Association are providing electronic maps to locate more than 1,200 places of accommodation.
