Kirati the lone local hope

Thailand's Kirati Siributwong became the lone local hope in the US$10,000 PTT Bangkok Open Men's Futures 4 tournament after he beat France's Yannick Jankovits in the first round at the Rama Gardens Hotel yesterday.
The teenage star won a tough first set 7-5 before cruising through the second 6-3 to book a second round clash with third-seeded Xu Xin-yuan of China. Five local players went out in their first round yesterday. Qualifier Putporn Chantawannop fell 6-2 6-1 to Stephen Donald of Australia, Peerakiat Siributwong lost to Australian qualifier Suleman Jafarey-Hall 6-2 5-7 6-3, while Sorachet Uayporn was whitewashed by Chung Hee-seok of South Korea 6-0 6-0. Wild card holder Peerakiat Siriluethaiwattana was given a tennis lesson by American fourth-seed Jonathan Chu, who won 6-4 6-2. The fifth Thai victim was teenager Kittipong Wachiramanowong, who lost to Masatoshi Miyazaki of Japan 6-3 6-3. Three seeded players made it into the second round with only Nick Lindahl struggling. The Australian second-seed came back from a second set deficit to beat South Korean Lim Lyun-soo 6-4 4-6 6-1. Fifth-seed Victor Kolik of Israel ousted Do Minh-Quan of Vietnam 6-1 6-4 and eighth-seeded Nam Hyun-woo of South Korea downed Australian Leon Frost 6-3 6-1. Elsewhere, Kwon Hyung-tae of South Korea beat Francisco Malfitani of Argentina 6-3 6-1. China's Ma Rong also advanced after Japan's Sato Hiroyasu retired at 6-3 4-1 with an injury.
