Highlights of the week :Thaksin sets off on tour of Northeast

Caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will tour the Northeast from today until Wednesday.

He will chair the Cabinet meeting from Khon Kaen tomorrow via teleconference link to Bangkok.

On Wednesday he will revisit Roi Et's At Samat district, the scene of his poverty-eradication "reality show" in January, to follow up on the progress there.

Democrat manifesto

Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva will launch the "People's Agenda", the party's policies for the October 15 election campaign.

EC selection

On Thursday, the general assembly of Supreme Court judges will screen candidates for the new Election Commission.

The judges have to select 10 candidates from a list of 42 nominees and forward their names to the Senate, which will choose the final five to become election commissioners.
